Title: A Literature Review on Using the Genre-Based Approach and Collaborative Learning to Teach English Argumentative Writing to Chinese College Students
Author(s): Liu Lin, Nalini Arumugam
Abstract: This literature review explores the application of the genre-based approach and collaborative learning in teaching English argumentative writing to Chinese university students. Despite the growing emphasis on academic writing in English education, Chinese students often face persistent challenges in argumentative essay writing, including limited critical thinking skills, inadequate structural coherence, and insufficient linguistic resources. Existing teaching practices, often dominated by product- or process-oriented approaches, fail to address these issues effectively. This paper introduces GBA, grounded in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), and CL, rooted in social interdependence theory, as complementary methodologies. The review discusses their theoretical foundations, practical applications, and advantages in addressing the identified problems. The findings suggest that integrating GBA and CL enhances students' genre awareness, critical thinking, and language proficiency while fostering collaborative skills and learner autonomy.

Title: Blockchain-Enabled Halal Certification and Traceability System: A SMART Supply Chain Solution for Malaysia’s Food Industry
Author(s): Rozita Zahari; Mohamad Zamri Ahmed Shukor; Syakirah Salleh; Mohamad Asmawi Ramli
Abstract: Investigating a new blockchain-based approach for halal certification kicks off this work, aiming squarely at bolstering trust and transparency in Malaysia’s food system. The study, drawing on a mix of voices from producers, consumers, and certifying bodies, plus some hard numbers on supply chain performance, compellingly shows that blockchain is not just a buzzword but a real way to back up halal standards and give buyers more confidence. Results, in many cases, indicate that the system ramps up traceability and even cuts down on non-compliance issues, which in turn builds a sense of accountability and overall openness. Generally speaking, when you blend advanced technology into halal certification, you don’t just safeguard food integrity; you also contribute, however subtly, to better public health by raising safety and quality benchmarks. Even though the focus here is Malaysia, the model seems to have global legs, offering a scalable solution that could address similar challenges elsewhere. All in all, this work lays a promising foundation for future studies on how tech improvements can further revolutionize halal certification and shake up food supply chain dynamics, leaving some room for the natural, sometimes imperfect flow of ideas.

Title: An Intergrated Framework of Lean Cost Reduction, Lean Performance, and Lean Transportation Law Theories on Logistics Practice
Author(s): Zulhilmi Muhammad Nasir; Rohafiz Saba
Abstract: The logistics industry in Malaysia is experiencing rapid growth, which calls for enhanced operational efficiency, cost optimization, and waste minimization. While lean management has seen global success, its application in Malaysia's logistics sector remains relatively underexplored. This qualitative study aims to fill this gap by proposing an integrated framework combining lean cost reduction, performance, and transportation law theories to improve logistics practices. The research examines lean management principles in relation to logistics operation parties, focusing on three core theories: Cost Reduction Theory, Performance Theory, and Lean Transportation Law Theory. Data was collected through interviews with representatives from eight randomly selected logistics companies. The study's findings reveal that logistics operators have implemented various lean practices: Lean Cost Reduction Theory includes Milk-run, Justin-time, and Waste Tier Elimination; Lean Performance Theory involves Operational Collaboration, Continuous Improvement, and Information Sharing; and Lean Transportation Law Theory is reflected in the Law of Transportation Waste, Law of Transportation Strategy, Law of Daily Event Management, and Law of Lean Transportation Performance. The proposed framework provides a structured methodology to help logistics operators achieve sustainable operational excellence, bridging the gap between theory and practical application in lean logistics management.

Title: The Impact of Leadership Styles on Employee Performance in Jinja City Council: An Empirical Study
Author(s): Walusimbi Yunus; Kabachwamba Zainab; Tugume Sulaiman; Amran Nor Mohammed
Abstract: his study sought to assess the influence of Leadership Style on Employee Performance in Jinja City Council. The study objectives were to: establish how Autocratic leadership style, Democratic leadership style and laisez faire leadership style influences employee performance at Jinja City Council. The study employed descriptive research design where qualitative and quantitative approaches were used, opinions, and suggestions on the influence of leadership styles on employee performance at Jinja City Council. The study population was 72 employees from Jinja City Council which comprised of Mayor, Town Clerk, CFO, Commercial officer, Accountants, Procurement officer, Cashier, Internal Auditor and opinion leaders. The researcher used simple random sampling technique (randomization) as it ensured that each member of the target population had an equal and independent chance of being included in the sample and purposively sampled. Data from questionnaires will be cleaned and checked for consistence. The pre-coded data was thereafter entered into a computer and analyzed using SPSS version 20. The qualitative data was then coded and codes will be used to identify themes. Thematic analysis was used to analysis the data after which conclusions were made on individual questions. The findings of this study highlight the critical role that leadership styles play in influencing employees' performance. Autocratic leadership, which involves centralized decision-making and minimal employee participation, was found to have a detrimental impact on performance. This aligns with existing literature suggesting that rigid control and lack of employee engagement suppress innovation and reduce motivation (Walker et al., 2021). Directive leadership, on the other hand, was found to have a significant positive effect on employees' performance. Leaders who provide clear instructions, establish expectations, and set structured goals contribute to a more efficient work environment and in contrast, laissez-faire leadership exhibited an insignificant relationship with employees' performance, implying that a completely hands-off approach does not necessarily improve productivity. Employees who lack proper supervision and guidance may struggle with accountability and decision making.
